WACO, Texas – The No. 23 Utah women's basketball team fell to the Baylor Bears 70-61 Tuesday evening.
Utah now has a 13-4 overall record and are 4-2 in Big 12 play. The Utes were led by Gianna Kneepkens' and Matyson Wilke who each had 17 points.
GAME SUMMARY
The Utes found themselves down by five points early in the first quarter but were able to hold the Bears scoreless for just over three minutes and put together a 7-0 run to give Utah a two point edge. Baylor was able to swing some momentum to take another five point lead over Utah but
Matyson Wilke hit a jumper with one second left in the initial quarter of play to put the score at 16-13 in favor of the Bears.
The Utes were able to tie the game at 19-19 early in the second quarter but Baylor went on to outscore the Utes 19-7 the remainder of the first half for a 35-26 score.
Utah kicked it into gear in the third quarter and outscored Baylor 22-14. The Utes defense locked in late in the third quarter and forced the Bears into a two minute scoring drought. Utah capitalized on the Bears' cold streak with an 11-0 run thanks to three made from beyond the arc, two of which came from Wilke.
Utah trailed 49-48 going into the final quarter of play and made a surge to tie the score at 53-53. The Utes were able to keep the score within one point until Baylor captured the momentum ending the game on a 10-2 run to defeat the Utes 70-61.
LEADERS
Utah had three players score in double figures and were led by Matyson Wilke and Gianna Kneepkens' 17-point performances. Reese Ross also posted double-figures for the Utes with 12 points.
Ross and Mayé Touré each pulled down seven rebounds for the Utes for the game high.
Inês Vieira had four assists to help Utah's offense and pulled down five rebounds.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 40.7% from the field while Baylor shot 53.7% from the field. Utah went 30.4% from deep making just 7-of-23 while Baylor went 29.4% shooting 5-of-17. The Utes went 6-of-9 from the free throw line for 66.7% while the Bears went 7-of-9 for 77.8%.
Utah had 16 assists on 24 made field goals while Baylor had 22 assists on 29 made field goals. The Utes outrebounded the Bears 31-29. Utah had 28 points in the paint while Baylor had 44. Utah had 21 turnovers and gave up 25 points off those turnovers while Baylor had 16 turnovers and gave up 16 points off those turnovers.
NOTABLES
Gianna Kneepkens knocked down her 200th career three pointer to become the seventh Ute in school history to hit the milestone. Kennady McQueen was the last Ute to hit 200 just last season against Washginton (3/2/24).

Utah will continue Big 12 play by staying on the road for a Top 25 matchup with No. 10 TCU on Jan. 17. The Utes will return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Wednesday, Jan. 22 to take on Kansas.
