FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 23 Utah women's basketball team put up a fight against No. 10 TCU after cutting a 21-point deficit at the half to fall just 81-73 to the Horned Frogs Friday night.
Utah was led by Gianna Kneepkens' season-high performance of 26 points. The Utes are now 13-5 overall on the season and sit at 4-3 in Big 12
GAME SUMMARY
Early in the first quarter, TCU went on a 7-0 run capturing all the momentum. The Horned Frogs held the Utes to just one field goal in the final five minutes of the first. Utah trailed 19-9 as the initial quarter ended.
Utah couldn't swing any momentum in the second quarter and TCU pushed out for a 45-24 lead going into the halftime break.
The Utes found some momentum coming out of the half and started the third quarter on an 11-2 run. Utah went on to outscore TCU 23-15 in the third quarter but still trailed 60-47 going into the final quarter of play.
Matyson Wilke hit a three to start the fourth quarter for the Utes keeping the momentum in favor of Utah. Utah was then able to cut the score deficit down to single digits thanks to back-to-back three pointers from Gianna Kneepkens. TCU was able to capture some momentum with a 6-0 run however Utah answered with a 5-0 run of its own.
Utah was able to keep the score within single digits the remainder of the game but couldn't finish and fell 81-73 to TCU.
LEADERS
Utah had three players score in double figures and were led by Gianna Kneepkens' season-high performance of 26 points. Matyson Wilke had 14 points for Utah while Reese Ross added 11 to Utah's totals. Inês Vieira added nine points for the Utes.
Jenna Johnson led the Utes on the boards pulling down eight rebounds and added five assists to Utah's offensive efforts.
COMPARISON
Utah shot 45.3% from the field while TCU shot 44.1% from the field. Utah went 34.0% from deep making 9-of-26 while TCU went 42.3% shooting 11-of-26. The Utes went 14-of-17 from the free throw line for 82.4% while the Horned Frogs went 18-of-20 for 90.0%.
Utah had 13 assists on 25 made field goals while TCU had 17 assists on 26 made field goals. The Utes outrebounded the Horned Frogs 33-28.

Utah will return to the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Wednesday, Jan. 22 to take on Kansas before making the short trip to BYU in the first rivalry matchup of the year on Jan. 25.
