SALT LAKE CITY – Utah women's basketball is now 2-0 on the season after picking up a 90-53 victory over Utah State in the first road game of the year.
Utah had four Utes score in double figures and were led by senior Lani White's 19 points. Avery Hjelmstad and Brooke Walker posted career-highs in scoring with Hjelmstad having 16 and Walker had 12.
GAME SUMMARY The Utes had a strong going on an 8-0 run to start the game. The Utes maintained the momentum ending the initial quarter of play on a 13-0 run. Utah held Utah State to just eight points in the quarter. Utah had a 25-8 lead going into the second quarter.
Utah lagged in the second quarter allowing the Aggies to cut the score deficit down to single digits. Utah State outscored the Utes 23-14 in the second however Utah's big first quarter allowed them to keep a 39-31 lead going into the break.
The Utes came out of halftime firing, going on a 10-0 run to start things off. The Utes held the Aggies to just six points in the third quarter and went on to outscore Utah State 51-22 throughout the second half. Utah closed out the game with the 90-53 victory over Utah State.
LEADERS The Utes had four score in double figures and were led by Lani White's 19 points including three knocked down from beyond the arc. Avery Hjelmstad posted a career-high 16 points including three from deep. Brooke Walker also posted a career-high with 12 points while Maty Wilke added 10.
LA Sneed had a big game and led the Utes with nine assists. Chyra Evans led the Utes with seven rebounds.
COMPARISON Utah shot 57.8% from the field while Utah State shot 32.8% from the field. Utah went 50% from three making 12-of-24 while Utah State went 20.8% shooting 5-of-24.
The Utes out rebounded Utah State 43-29. The Utes showed their selflessness yet again posting 25 assists while the Aggies just had seven. Utah showed strong depth scoring 37 points off the bench while Utah State scored 17. The Utes dominated in the paint scoring 48 while the Aggies had 26.
UP NEXT Utah is set to host Utah Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in a Military Appreciation game before hosting Washington on Saturday, Nov. 15.
