COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Utah softball team dropped the second game of its doubleheader this afternoon, falling to the No. 11-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 3-0, here at the Texas A&M Invitational this evening.
The Aggies (18-2) tapped the Utes for six hits in plating three runs. Utah, which tallied a pair of hits, drops to 7-10 for the year.
Brianna Gourdin takes the loss in going the distance. She struck out two, walked one and surrendered six hit and three earned runs to the Aggies. Her counterpart, Amanda Scarborough, tallies the win for A&M and is 9-0 this season.
The Utes broke up 10 consecutive innings of no-hit ball by the Aggies when Ivette Hernandez and and Devina Quintero tallied back-to-back hits in the fifth. Those were the only two Utes to register a hit.
All the Aggies needed, they got it in the third inning. Joy Davis reached on the first hit of the game and soon scored when Jamie Hinshaw doubled over the left fielder's head. Insurance came in the sixth inning on Adrian Gregory's two-run home run to right center.
The Utes return to action at the tournament with another doubleheader tomorrow against McNeese State and Texas A&M. First pitch is set for 12:15 p.m. (CST).
