The Cougars scored all five of their runs in the third inning, with a two-out rally. The first pair of runs came off a long ball by Lauren Watson. The final three runs would then come off another home run, this time by Paige Paramore.
Utah chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the fourth off a single by Bryanne Durrence. Utah would score three in the top of the fifth using a two-out rally.
