This Weekend's Fan Experience Rundown
- Once again throughout the 2025 season, parking on Utah Baseball gamedays is free at Smith's Ballpark. Park in the lot on 13th South, directly North of home plate. Fans can also ride TRAX for free with a valid game ticket or University of Utah UCard—just hop on the Red, Blue or Green Lines to Ballpark Station.
- University of Utah students are always admitted to baseball games free of charge—just claim your ticket online at utahtickets.com/MUSS.
- Friday's series opener will be packed on the promotions calendar, headlined by a special hat giveaway for the first 200 fans through the gates. One hat per fan; in addition the hat is a giveaway and does not serve as a season ticket like in past years.
- Every Friday home game this season will be Snack Shack Day. Visit the marketing table behind home plate to claim a voucher for a free or discounted item at the concession stand. Also during this Friday's game, play baseball bingo!
- The first 150 fans to arrive on Saturday will receive a free Utah Baseball water bottle. Kids are also invited to run the bases postgame down on the field; listen to announcements in the ballpark on where to meet.
- Sunday will be the final Sunday Select Series game of the season with a baseball card giveaway (this week's cards are Mateus Conaway, Core Jackson, Easton Jones and Payton Riske).
The First Pitch: Things to Know
It's the penultimate three-game series of the home schedule for the Utah baseball team this weekend, as the Utes welcome No. 23-ranked Kansas to Smith's Ballpark. The series runs from Friday through Sunday, April 25-27.
- Utah is looking to build on a 13-5 victory on Tuesday night over in-state foe Utah Valley. Core Jackson and Kaden Carpenter each homered in the victory, with Jackson's shot measuring out at 495 feet.
- The game also featured an outstanding relief outing from southpaw Mateus Conaway. The graduate transfer delivered 5.2 innings out of the bullpen, holding UVU to just one hit and a walk while striking out six Wolverines.
- Utah leads the all-time series with Kansas by a 6-3 margin. The clubs last met in 2016, splitting a pair of neutral-site contests, while the Utes swept KU's only prior trip to Salt Lake City in 2013.
- Jackson was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List on April 16, with the award ultimately going to the nation's top shortstop. Jackson has been a mainstay of the Utah offense in his two seasons with the club. A .376 hitter since arriving in SLC, Jackson this season owns a .395 batting average, 15 doubles, nine home runs, 34 RBI and 45 runs scored—all team bests. In addition, infielder Austen Roellig (.347), outfielder Santino Panaro (.310) and infielder Tyler Quinn (.301) are each hitting above .300.
- Jackson's 15 doubles also place him second in the Big 12 Conference and are among Utah's team total of 92. The team tally is the third-highest in the league and ranks top-19 nationally.
- Both Jackson and right-handed pitcher Colter McAnelly were included on the midseason position rankings released by D1Baseball.com. Jackson was listed as the No. 13 shortstop in the country and McAnelly checked in as the No. 32-ranked starting pitcher.
- Roellig has enjoyed a nice turnaround since the second weekend of the season; he went 3-for-16 in Utah's first series at Pepperdine but quickly flipped the script and has built up his season average to .347—second on the team—with 12 doubles, a triple, one homer and 29 RBIs.
- The Utes are off from midweek competition next week while tending to final exams. The squad will be back in action with a trip to Houston from May 2-4.
This Week in Utah Baseball History
April 24, 1997 – With first place in the WAC on the line, Utah defeats rival BYU 8-6 on a 10th inning walk-off homer from Nate Forbush. As the ball curled down the right field line it was originally ruled foul; in a world before instant replay the umpires conferenced and reversed the call to a home run. It was Utah's 30th win of the season and the team went on to finish the season with a program-record 36 victories.
April 27, 1990 – West Valley native Craig Sudbury no-hits New Mexico in a 2-1, seven-inning victory at Derks Field. The Lobos' only run came in the first inning after Sudbury hit the leadoff batter. The run was ultimately unearned.
