PHILADELPHIA – The Los Angeles Angels on Sunday selected University of Utah junior left fielder
Jake Long in the 13
th round of the 2026 MLB Draft. Long, a native of Whitter, California, was taken by the Angels with the No. 379 overall pick.
Long is the 81
st MLB Draft selection in recorded Utah history and seventh by the Angels organization. He is the first Utah player to be taken by the Angels since C.J. Cron in 2011.
Long has spent the past two seasons with Utah after beginning his collegiate journey at Santa Ana College. Over his two years in Salt Lake City, Long has appeared in 96 games with 92 starts—primarily in left field—with a .325 / .402 / .495 career slash line.
He was one of the Big 12's most improved players year-over-year in 2026, showing huge upside in batting average (.263 to .374), slugging (.329 to .626), OBP (.347 to .445), doubles (eight to 16), home runs (one to 11) and RBIs (21 to 58). It earned Long ABCA All-Region Second Team honors as well as All-Big 12 Second Team.
Long's .374 batting average this past season led the Utes, while his .380 clip in Big 12 Conference play ranked seventh in the league. He started all 51 games of the season with 49 in left field and two at DH. He had a 21-game hitting streak from Feb. 22 through March 31, the longest at Utah since the 2011 season. During that streak, Long hit for the cycle in a rubber game win over Kansas State on March 29, going 5-for-6 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored. It made Long the third player to hit for the cycle in recorded Utah history and first since 2005.
He appeared in 45 games during the 2025 campaign with 41 starts. He hit .263 for the season with eight doubles, one home run, 21 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
Before spending 2024 at Santa Ana College, Long was an All-CIF and All-Area standout at La Serna High School under head coach Anthony Gonzales. His prowess extended beyond the diamond as Long was tabbed All-CIF as a football quarterback as well as All-Area and Offensive MVP.
