ABCA Recognizes Utah Baseball with Team Academic Excellence Award

Utes receive national honor for the fifth straight season
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah baseball program was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday with the Team Academic Excellence Award. Presented to the Utes for the fifth straight season, the honor is given to programs with a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the recently-completed school year.
The Utes had a program-record team GPA of 3.42 and were one of nine clubs in the Big 12 Conference to be honored.
Individually, five members of the team were named CSC Academic All-District earlier this Summer.
The 2026 season marked a generational milestone for Utah Baseball with the opening of Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. The $38 million facility has dramatically improved the day-to-day student-athlete experience along with team operations, while creating renewed baseball interest among Utah fans, alumni and media. Utah finished the year with 16 home wins, its most since at least the 1991 season.
Utah also had two players selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. ABCA All-Region left fielder Jake Long was taken in the 13th round by the Los Angeles Angels, while the Minnesota Twins picked Friday night starting pitcher Colter McAnelly in the 18th round.
