CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The University of Utah softball team got off to a fast start, but ended up on the short end of a 10-2 defeat to the No. 15 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
Utah is now 4-12.
Despite facing two-time All-American pitcher Jordyn Bahl, the Utes quickly found some offense in the first inning, starting with a lead-off walk to
Reese Lee. After Lee took second on a groundout,
Kennedy Proctor sliced an RBI double down the right field line for the game's first run.
Kaylah Nelsen followed with a single through the middle and Proctor raced home to make the score 2-0.
Unfortunately for Utah, that lead was short-lived. Nebraska countered with four runs in the second and added four in the fourth and two more in the fifth to move in front by eight.
Bahl was also sharp the rest of the way, preventing Utah from adding to its total. After a
Hailee White single in the fifth, a double play ended the afternoon.
Up Next
Utah's next destination is Fullerton, Calif., the site of the Judi Garman Classic, where the Utes will play five games in three days, starting with meetings against LSU and UCLA on Friday.
