OGDEN, Utah – Utah Softball suffered a 5-1 defeat at Weber State this afternoon.
The Utes mustered just five hits against three Weber State pitchers and lost for just the second time in 14 meetings to the Wildcats.
Ellessa Bonstrom doubled and walked to extend her team-high hitting streak to six games and
Ally Dickman collected two more knocks.
Sydney Sandez entered in the first inning to relieve and would up closing the contest, matching her career high with five strikeouts
WSU got off to a great start when Takesha Saltern took a four-pitch walk and scored on Chloe Camarero's single. Two more singles loaded the bases for the Wildcats before Brooke Moeai lifted a sacrifice fly to right field for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, Bonstrom doubled,
Hailey Hilburn singled and a pitch hit
BreOnna Castaneda, loading the bases. Utah could muster just the one run on a
Katie Faulk grounder to third.
The Wildcats extended their lead in the fifth. Sydney White doubled and Landi Hawker reached on an error. Camarero continued her big day at the dish with a three-run homer, the first of her career to open up a 5-1 advantage.
Utah is home this weekend for two games against No. 2 Oklahoma. The Utes and Sooners start on Saturday at 2 p.m. and it will be Pathways to Careers Day at Dumke Family Softball Stadium. Pathways to Careers is an organization that expands employment choices for persons with disabilities.
