KICKOFF
Utah Soccer hosts the Bay Area schools this weekend for a pair of contests at Ute Field. The homestand opens with Cal on Thursday at 7 p.m. with Ute student-athletes hosting the annual Trunk or Treat prior to the match. No. 2 Stanford comes to town on Sunday for a noon contest on Pac-12 Networks.
NELSON NEXT LEVEL IN NET
Carly Nelson was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Sep. 24 after a pair of shutouts against Butler and San Diego.
The Ute stopper combined with Utah's defense to blank its last four opponents in non-conference play. This was the longest shutout streak for a Ute defense since the 2006 season (9 games)
The senior from Lindon leads the Pac-12 with 76 saves, eight shutouts and 1452:12 minutes played (24th nationally). She also sits third in the conference with an .844 save percentage
Nelson's 21 career shutouts place her third all-time in Utah history and she needs 21 saves to crack the top five in that category.
This was the 16th Pac-12 weekly award for Utah Soccer and fourth for Nelson
WEEK IN REVIEW
Utah Soccer kept its undefeated record at home intact with a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Arizona this evening. The last time the Utes finished a season unbeaten at home was in 2013 (7-0-4).
Utah had its chances but the woodwork was unkind as
Tavia Leachman hit the post in the second half and Lulu Borges headed a try off the crossbar in overtime.
SERIES HISTORY
Utah opens the weekend with Cal, who it owns a 1-7-3 mark against, including a 0-3-1 record at home. Last season in Berkeley, the Utes picked up their first win ever against the Golden Bears with
Ireland Dunn assisting on both goals in a 2-0 result.
Utah is 1-9-1 against Stanford and is also 0-3-1 at home against the Cardinal. The Utes have not scored against Stanford since 2015 and their only win against the Cardinal occurred away from home in 2006 (2-1).
