Utes to take on BYU on Friday in Provo
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by the No. 14 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sunday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.
Â
Utah is now 4-8-5 overall and 1-5-3 in conference, while Texas Tech improved to 11-1-4 and 7-1-1.
Â
"Texas Tech was very efficient and clinical today," said coach Hideki Nakada, "and credit to them for taking advantage of their opportunities. We held them to their lowest shot total of the season, but they were excellent in the moments that mattered."
Â
The two sides combined for just one shot over the first 30 minutes and that single chance was saved by Utah's Anna Solomon. The day's first score was produced by the visitors in the 35th minute, when Kylie Bahr scored on a shot from close range. Utah immediately tried to answer when Rylan Park fired an on-target shot from the top of the 18, but Texas Tech's Addie Todd was in position to make the save.
Â
In the second half, Solomon stopped the first shot she saw on a header from just outside the six-yard box, but the visitors capitalized on their next chance to make the score 2-0 in the 56th minute and they added a third at the 83:07 mark.
Â
Despite the deficit the Utes continued battling in the second half, with Solomon collecting another save and Park putting another effort on frame, but the home side was unable to find a way to break through. Park matched her career-high with two shots, while Solomon totaled four saves. Defensively, the Utes held TTU to eight shots, matching their lowest total of the season.
Â
"We had enough possession of the ball to create opportunities of our own," said Nakada, "but we lacked the sharpness and quality on the ball to turn those moments into meaningful chances. Against a team like Texas Tech, you have to be more decisive and execute better in the key moments. We'll take some time to recover, get our legs back, and shift our focus to BYU on Friday."
