PHOENIX - Utah Softball suffered an unusual split at Grand Canyon on Tuesday, winning the first game, 12-4, before losing the second game that was called due to time constraints, 2-0.

Claire Feldman earned the first win of her Utah career and
BreOnna Castaneda drove in five runs as the Utes rolled in the first game.
Feldman went four innings, the longest outing of her career, striking out three batters in relief of
Katie Donovan. The Utah senior started and went three innings before giving way to the freshman.
Castaneda also had three hits and scored twice for the Utes. She was one of five players with multiple hits and four with multiple runs batted in as Utah blew up offensively.
Heather Bowen collected a career-high five hits and also drove in three while scoring twice.
In the first inning,
Alyssa Barrera legged out a grounder to short, Castaneda walked and Bowen singled to load the bases.
Alyssa Palacios singled to right for a 1-0 lead.
After GCU tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Sierra Smith, the Utes took over in the second.
Abby Robertson walked on four pitches and
Ally Dickman singled up the middle. After a bunt moved both runners up, Barrera walked to load the bases once again. Castaneda singled to left to push Utah in front and an error scored Dickman.
Kelly Martinez slapped a two-run double and Palacios added a RBI single for a 6-1 lead.
GCU tacked on another run in the third when Donovan uncorked a pair of wild pitches with a runner on base.
Utah got its run back in the fourth as Bowen cracked her fourth homer of the season, tying her for the team lead. The senior now has 18 round-trippers for her career.
The Antelopes added another run in the bottom half off Feldman after an error, bunt and RBI single by Bianca Boling.
In the fifth,
Hailey Hilburn walked and after another GCU error, Barrera walked to load the bases. Castaneda and Bowen followed with consecutive doubles to push Utah to double digits on the day.
Niki Gonzalez brought in a run for the home team in the fifth and Utah closed the scoring with a pair of runs in the seventh.
Aubrey Peterson singled and
Julia Noskin walked before Barrera singled again to fill the base paths. Castaneda came through again with a two-run single to cap a strong offensive showing for the Utes.
Grand Canyon 2, Utah 0 (5 inn.)
Utah had the tying run in scoring position with one out in the sixth but the game was halted due to a prior agreement on a drop dead time of 4:20 p.m. Due to the length of the first game, the second game started at 2:50 p.m.
The Utes mustered just one hit in the first five innings but had three in the sixth before the game was called.
Neither team could do anything offensively until Sierra Smith hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth. Loriann Olson added a RBI double to make it 2-0 in the fifth before Utah came bat for a final time.
Yesenia Morrison walked two and struck out a pair while mixing ground balls with fly outs, keeping the Utes off balance when it mattered. Utah put runners in scoring position during four of the six innings it batted.
Meanwhile,
Miranda Viramontes' tough luck continued as she fell to 2-8 on the season, despite striking out four and not allowing a walk.
