Senior Day: At the conclusion of Saturday's game, the Utah softball program will honor its five departing senior student-athletes:
Angie Boardman (Spokane, Wash.) was voted as team captain for this season by peers after only one season in the program. She is a versatile player who moved from third base to right field before this season. Entering this week's games, Boardman started 97 career games and hit .306 with 83 hits, including 14 doubles and 12 home runs. She drove in 49 runs with a .491 slugging percentage. This season, Boardman had 38 hits, featuring 12 round-trippers, four doubles and four stolen bases to go along with 19 RBI.
Shortstop Sharee Fonoti (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) was voted team captain by her peers this season. A four-year starter at shortstop, she has made 215 career starts and had 120 career hits, including 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 64 RBI. She has recorded 14 stolen bases while being caught stealing only once. She was the only Utah player to start every game for the Utes in 2005 and 2008. In 2008, Fonoti earned recognition as an Academic All-MWC selection for the first time in her career. During Utah's 2006 NCAA Tournament run, Fonoti went 2-for-2 in an NCAA regional win over Indiana.
During the course of her career, Staci Hemingway (West Valley, Utah) has shown her versatility and commitment to the team by playing three different positions for the Utes: first base, shortstop and second base. Before this week's action, she has started 210 games and is a career .269 hitter with 160 hits, including 32 doubles, two triples, 19 home runs and a.426 slugging percentage. Hemingway was unanimously voted as a team captain by her peers this season. She was also one of 30 candidates from across the nation for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in softball. In 2008, Hemingway was ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII selection and also earned the first Academic All-MWC honor of her career. In 2007, Hemingway recorded hits in nine consecutive at bats from May 10 to May 12, tying for the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history.
Andrea Hoffman (West Valley, Utah) entered this week with 155 career starts, primarily at catcher, with a career .992 fielding percentage. She hit her first career home run in her first collegiate at-bat against Colorado State in 2006 and then connected on her second career home run this season, also against the Rams. In 2008, Hoffman tied for fifth in the MWC with 10 runners caught stealing. She was also honored with the first Academic All-MWC selection of her career.
Bonnie Muir (West Jordan, Utah) earned Academic All-MWC recognition in 2008. Entering today's game she had played in 47 games with 23 starts, mostly at second base and has recorded four career multiple-hit games. Muir has 16 career hits, including two home runs, two doubles and a triple, while driving in 10 runs. She has posted a .943 fielding percentage this season she has started 14 games and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run batted in against Utah State on Feb. 7.

Utah saw its all-time conference record dip to 302-207-1, good for a .593 winning percentage. Last season, Utah finished third in the MWC at 10-10 in league play in its first season under head coach Amy Hogue.
Utes picked fourth in MWC Preseason Poll: Utah was tabbed fourth in the 2009 MWC Preseason Poll, the conference office announced Jan. 28.
