Two Utes Named to 2009 All-MWC Softball Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior right fielder Angie Boardman and junior center fielder Kara Foster were both selected to the 2009 All-Mountain West Conference team as selected by the league's six head coaches.
Foster earned her second career all-conference selection after hitting a league-high 18 home runs this season and ranking second with a .756 slugging percentage and total bases (124), third in runs scored (42), fourth in RBI (41), sixth in hits (56), tied for sixth in doubles (12), and tied for ninth with eight stolen bases.
Foster also posted a .341 batting average, 56 hits, 14 walks, and a .401 on-base percentage.
The Derby, Kan., native broke the Utah home run record with her 50th career round-tripper in the second game of a doubleheader April 21 at Utah Valley. She ended the season with 53 career home runs and now holds the school record by four home runs.
Foster earned an all-conference nod during her sophomore season in 2008.
Boardman was selected to the All-MWC team for the first time in her after totaling 40 hits, featuring nine round-trippers that ranked sixth in the MWC, four doubles and three stolen bases to go along with 19 RBI. Boardman, a two-year starter who transferred to Utah after earning All-American honors at North Idaho College, was voted as team captain for this season by peers after only one season in the program.
Boardman showed her versatility throughout her career after moving from third base to right field before this season. In 2008, Boardman ranked seventh in the MWC with a team-high .441 on-base percentage, ranked second on the team with 30 RBI, third on team and 17th in the MWC with a .321 batting average. Entering today's contest, Boardman started 101 career games and hit .301 with 85 hits, including 14 doubles and 12 home runs. She drove in 49 runs and posted a .479 slugging percentage in two seasons at Utah.
The 20-member all-conference team includes five student-athletes each from regular-season champion BYU and San Diego State, four from UNLV, and two apiece from Colorado State, New Mexico and Utah.
BYU sophomore Jessica Purcell was named MWC Player of the Year, while fellow Cougar Christie Zinanti captured the MWC Pitcher of the Year award. San Diego State's Bailey Micetich garnered MWC Freshman of the Year acclaim, and BYU's Gordon Eakin captured the MWC Coach of the Year honor for the first time.
