SALT LAKE CITY - After a thrilling two-game split with BYU last weekend, the Utes return to the field in a non-conference doubleheader at Utah Valley to begin the final week of regular season play on Monday, May 5. The first game begins at noon in Orem. The two teams have attempted to play several times this year, but weather has thwarted their efforts.
The game is a prelude to the final conference weekend of the year, with Utah taking on New Mexico in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 8, before single games against Colorado State on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
Weekend in Review
Utah split a pair of games with conference rival BYU last weekend, falling 5-4 in game one, while winning a nine-inning game two, 4-3.
Both games featured come-from-behind heroics as well as a back-and-fourth lead. BYU hit two home runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead in the first game. Game two saw a BYU error in the bottom of the ninth inning bring Staci Hemingway (who walked to lead off the inning) around to score.
Kara Foster hit two home runs over the weekend, batting .400 (2-for-5) with three RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Angie Boardman was 3-for-6 for a .500 average, driving in two for the Utes.
Ashley Smuda started both games, striking out 10. Brittany Parker earned the win in game two, entering the game in the eighth inning. She struck out two during her time on the mound.
