HENDERSON, Nev - The University of Utah softball team (3-5-1 overall) fell victim to the long ball today as the University of Oregon and University of Hawaii topped the Utes here on their second day of action at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic, 6-0 and 3-1, respectively.

"Our pitching did well enough for us to win this afternoon," said head coach Angie Jacobs. "But, our offense didn't work together to put runs up on the board. We will not start scoring runs until we string hits together. That is something we need to work on and we are going to need to get hits back-to-back-to-back in order to beat Seton Hall tomorrow morning."

A homer by Oregon in the fourth inning was all it needed to top Utah and three solo homers for Hawaii proved to be fatal as the Utes dropped two games this afternoon.

Meghan Crouse was the lone Ute with multiple hits today. She went 2-for-6 on the afternoon. Four other Utes finished the day with a hit.

Karina Cannon is saddled with the loss in game one and Meghan Dyer took the loss in game two. Cannon fanned seven in a complete-game effort while Dyer whiffed nine in 5.1 innings. They gave up 10 and five hits on the day, respectively.

Utah wraps up play in the Desert Classic on Monday morning when it plays Seton Hall at 9 a.m. (PST).

Utah 0, Oregon 6
A four-run fifth inning allowed the University of Oregon (9-1) to run away with a 6-0 win over Utah (3-4-1) here in their first game of the afternoon at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

Duck hurler Alicia Cook stymied Ute batters as they only tapped her for three hits. Two of the Utes' three hits came from the bat of Meghan Crouse. She had a single in the first inning and a double to right in the third. Oregon then held Utah hitless the last four innings.

Utah left five runners on base, two of which were in scoring position (on second in the second inning and on third in the third frame).

Oregon's Anne Marie Topps provided all the offense her team would need. She belted a solo homer to right field to lead off the second inning.

An unearned run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth made it insurmountable for the Utes. In the fifth, the Ducks benefited from a two-RBI double by Lovena Chaput and an RBI double by Topps.

Oregon belted out 10 hits and scored a run on one of Utah's three errors today.

Hawaii 3, Utah 1
It was all or nothing in the 3-1 loss to Hawaii (9-2) in the nightcap as all four runs in the game came from the long ball.

Hawaii rocked Ute hurler Dyer for three homers. Kaulana Gould had a leadoff homer in the fourth, Clare Warwick hit a leadoff round-tripper in the sixth and that was followed Tyleen Tausauga's solo, also in the sixth.

Utah (3-5-1), which had only three hits, responded with one homer of its own. Hailey Davenport hit her second career homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Hawaii's three runs came on five hits.
