More All-America Accolades Roll In for Wong

SALT LAKE CITY - Accolades continue to accumulate for University of Utah second baseman Jackie Wong as Easton-Bell Sports named the standout softball player a first team All-American this afternoon.
The award comes on the heels of a successful campaign that also saw her named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA second team All-American, first team All-West Region, All-Mountain West Conference and MWC all-tournament.
The senior from Antioch, Calif., led the team, the conference and ranked among the tops in the nation in batting all season long. The leadoff hitter smacked the ball around at a .439 clip. She led the team with 90 hits, 18 of which were extra-base hits. Her batting average ranks 10th in the country.
Wong was also a threat on the bases as well. Her slugging percentage checks in at .595 while her on-base percentage is an eye-popping .487. She has swiped 22 bases in 26 chances.
While she has been an offensive force all season, she is also one of the premiere infielders. In over 230 chances on the season, Wong committed only one error and owns a .996 fielding percentage.
Wong was one of four MWC players honored by Easton-Bell Sports. Erin Floros (San Diego State), Ianeta Le'I (BYU) and Jessica Strickland (Colorado State) were also named to the first team.
Utah finished the season 40-21 and in third in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes won the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and made it to the regional final. They were eliminated from the NCAA's by eventual World Series participant, Texas.
