PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah softball team (21-12 overall, 2-2 Mountain West) saw its six-game winning streak come to a halt at the hands of its heated rival today. Brigham Young (23-13, 2-2) swept the Utes in a league doubleheader, bagging 3-1 and 4-2 wins over the Utes.
Utah banged out seven hits on the afternoon, scattering three in game one and four in the second. Devina Quintero led the way with a pair of hits in each game. She was 2-for-3 in both outings and also hit her third homer of the year.

BYU 3, Utah 1
There wasn't much base-running strategy in the first game with all four runs scored coming off the long ball. The Cougars saw their three runs plated on two home runs while Utah belted one.
With the loss, Utah's six-game winning streak comes to an end.
BYU got on the board first with a two-out, two-run home run in the second inning. The Utes responded when Quintero hit a two-out solo shot high off the left field foul pole.
Andrea Ramierz extended BYU's lead back to two runs with a line drive over the left-center field fence.
The home team tapped the Utes for seven hits in game one. Utah only had three with Quintero tallying two of the team's hits. Diana Phillips belted the other hit for the visitors.
BYU 4, Utah 2
The Cougars pounced on Utah in game two, plating three runs in their first at bat. BYU built the first of its three-run leads thanks to a pair of RBI singles and a passed ball. Only one of the Cougar's three runs were earned in the opening frame.
Utah countered with a run in the fourth inning. With Sharee Fonoti on second, Ivette Hernandez doubled down the right field line. It slowly rolled to the fence, easily scoring Fonoti from second.
A suicide squeeze in the fifth allowed BYU to regain its three-run lead.
Phillips capped the scoring in game two. She led the sixth inning off with a triple to the gap in left-center field and later scored on Jessica Shiery's long sacrifice fly to left.
Utah had four hits in the second game of the double-dip. Quintero's 2-for-3 effort led the way for the Utes. BYU finished with five hits in the night cap.
