SALT LAKE CITY--The University of Utah softball program has hired Marianne Bullis as the new assistant coach. Bullis, a Tooele, Utah native, played for the Utes from 1994-97 at the catcher and designated player positions. After graduation, she stayed with the team as a fifth-year assistant.
Since leaving Utah, Bullis has served as an assistant coach at four different schools. Her first stop was at Colorado State, where she was an assistant from 1998-99. Bullis then moved on to Navarro College in Texas, where she helped lead the Bulldogs to a National Tournament appearance. After a stint at Indiana State from 2000-01, Bullis joined the softball program at Miami (Ohio) from 2001-02.
"It's really a dream of mine to be back at Utah," said Bullis. "I am excited to be working for a top program I know and have a connection too. It's also great to be close to my family and friends again."
Bullis will primarily work with the catchers, outfielders and on hitting technique. She will also serve as the recruiting and travel coordinator. Bullis holds two degrees from the U., a B.S. in geography and a B.S. in environmental studies. Away from softball, she enjoys fishing and spending time in the outdoors, especially in the mountains.
"When Marianne was a fifth-year assistant, we talked about her coming back as an assistant coach someday," said head coach Mona Stevens. "She now has valuable coaching experience under her belt and will bring a new enthusiasm and energy to the team. It's exciting to have a coaching staff comprised of alumni. It creates a group that is cohesive and that loves the U of U."
