ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Utah softball team was defeated by the No. 25 UCF Knights by a score of 17-0 on Thursday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Utah is now 25-12 overall and 4-6 in Big 12 play.
In the first inning, the Knights used a one-out homer, as well as a walk, a single, an error and an RBI double to take a 3-0 lead. The home team then exploded for seven more runs in the second, keyed by two more long balls. UCF added to its margin by scoring four more times in the third and three times in the fourth.
Utah's hits came from
Danika Wilson,
Cian Noli and
Hailee White and
Kennedy Proctor also reached base by drawing a walk. Wilson's first inning single pushed her current on-base streak to 21 straight games.
Unfortunately for the visitors, this game saw
Mia Gomez's program record streak of 36 straight games reaching base come to an end. The sophomore from California broke the school record for consecutive games getting on base when she reached 34 in-a-row on March 27 and she also outlasted every other freshman in the nation during her run. Gomez was the only rookie in Division I to start her career by playing in and reaching base safely in her team's first 36 contests.
