ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Utah softball team suffered a 9-1 loss to the No. 25 UCF Knights on Friday evening in Big 12 Conference action at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Utah's 2026 record is now 25-13 and 4-7 in the Big 12.
The Utes tallied the first run of the day in a bottom of the first inning that began with a
Mia Gomez single. After a walk moved Gomez into scoring position and the next two hitters were retired,
Cian Noli hit a hard grounder that bounced off the third base bag for a single, allowing Gomez to scamper home.
Unfortunately for the visitors, their advantage was short-lived. A three-run Sierra Humphreys homer in the bottom of the frame allowed UCF to leapfrog into the lead and the Knights put together three-run rallies in the second and third as well to build an eight-run advantage that they would hold for the final two innings.
Gomez provided Utah with a bright spot by reaching in all three of her plate appearances. Along with her hit in the first stanza, she singled in the second and drew a walk in fifth, raising her batting average for the year to .439.
Kayla Lyon,
Payton Crank and Noli also logged hits, while
Danika Wilson and
Shonty Passi boosted their on-base percentages by working walks. Wilson's base on balls pushes her current on-base streak to 22 games.
