LOGAN, Utah -
Lilliah Blum netted her second goal of the season for the University of Utah women's soccer team and that helped the Utes leave Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field with a 1-1 draw with the Utah State Aggies on Thursday night in Logan, Utah.
The Utes now own a 2-1-1 record through four matches.
"I'm proud of the fight we showed tonight," said coach
Hideki Nakada. "Lilliah scored a fantastic goal and was dominant down the wing all evening. I thought we controlled the game and dictated possession throughout, just as we have in every match so far. While I'm pleased with the performance, I'm disappointed we're not sitting at 4-0 after tonight. The positive is that we're playing really well; now it's about being more clinical in the final third and tightening things up in our defensive third.
"We're excited to be back home on Sunday and play in front of our fans against an ACC opponent in N.C. State."
The Utes started the first half by consistently put pressure on USU's defense and produced three corners in the first three minutes and six total in the period. Despite those chances, it was the Aggies who broke the ice in the 28th minute, when a Utah foul gave USU a free kick. Summer Diamond sent the ball into the box, where it found the foot of Ellie Hendrix, who booted it into the net for the night's first tally.
In the second half, the Utes again created an early opportunity, when a free kick from just outside the box was nearly headed in
Callie Blaylock and, not long after, a goal by
Ali Swensen was waved off when the Utah forward was ruled offside.
It was in the 72nd minute that Utah's hard work paid off. Blum chased down a pass that carried toward the left corner of the offensive zone. She deked the nearest defender, carried the ball into the box and sent a strike past the keeper for her second score of 2025.
Both teams tried to break the tie in the final minutes,
Kelly Bullock narrowly missing with a shot in the 87th minute and USU creating a few late chances, but the score was even when the final whistle blew.

The Utes will be back at Ute Field on Sunday, when they'll host the N.C. State Wolfpack for a 7 p.m. tilt.
