SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team falls to 17-24 with an 8-11 Mountain West Conference record after dropping a game to San Diego State 4-2. The Utes finish the three-game series 1-2, with a 12-4 win and an 8-4 loss. In the final game, Utah scored two runs on eight hits with two errors and gave San Diego State four runs on 12 hits with one error.
The Utes scored both their runs in the bottom of the first inning on a double by freshman Donnie Saba and a triple by Nate Weese, his sixth of the year. San Diego State came back to score one run in the top of the second on two singles and a double. The Aztecs took control of the game in the sixth inning scoring a pair runs on a two-shot home run by Paul Lockhart. The leftfielder also scored the Aztecs final run with a solo homer in the top of the ninth.
Senior Brandon Page earns the loss for Utah. Starting his first game of the season, Page pitched seven innings. He faced 29 batters, gave up 10 hits and three runs and pitched five strikeouts.
The Utes continue Mountain West Conference play with a three-game series against UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev., April 20-22.
