LAS VEGAS - The Utah baseball team falls to 17-25 with a 7-12 Mountain West Conference record after a 4-2 loss to UNLV last night. The Utes scored two runs on four hits with one error while giving up four runs on nine hits to the Rebels.
Utah led the game scoring one run in the first inning on singles by centerfielder Sam Swenson and first baseman Nate Weese. The Rebels rallied back scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one run in sixth to lead 4-1. Utah was only able to score one more run in the game when Swenson slammed a triple in the top of the ninth and scored on a wild pitch.
Senior Jared Cavaness earns the loss for Utah playing his fourth complete game of the season. He faced 33 batters in the game and struck out three at the plate.
The Utes and the Rebels continue the three-game series with a single game tonight at 7:00 p.m., in Las Vegas, Nev.
