LAS VEGAS-The University of Utah women's soccer team (13-7-1) dropped its first ever game in the Mountain West Conference finals, 6-1, to No. 11 Brigham Young (18-3-1) at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
BYU took an early lead with a goal at 8:38 by Kim Lowe. Utah responded at 14:05 when Amy Kofoed beat the Cougar goalie on a beautiful lead from Shauna Gurr. The score was Kofoed's 16th of the season, and Gurr issued her fifth assist in the tournament. BYU scored three more goals before half, to take a 4-1 lead into the break. Lowe scored her second of the game at 64:09 and the Cougars tacked on one more goal for the final outcome. Goalkeeper Courtney Hills turned back 10 shots, but could not stop the 24-7 shot advantage by the Cougars.
Kofoed and Gurr were named to the all-tournament team.
