B.K. Santy is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach at Utah. He serves as first base coach and works with the offense and the catchers.
Santy joins the Utes from the University of California, where he spent the previous two seasons serving as first base coach and working with the catchers. In 2016, Cal catcher Brett Cumberland earned All-America honors and was the Pac-12 Player of the Year before being selected in the second-round lottery of the MLB Draft. Last season Santy helped coach a battery of young catchers with the Golden Bears.
Santy was the catching coach at Palomar College in 2015, helping Palomar finish third in the CCCAA. Catcher Francis Christy was the ABCA Pacific Association Division Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. He was a seventh-round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Santy was also a graduate assistant at San Diego in the fall of 2015.
Santy played two seasons at Washington, appearing in 91 games with 80 starts from 2011-12. He hit .285 with 32 RBI, 12 doubles and three home runs with the Huskies. Santy transferred to Washington from Palomar, where he was a first-team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference selection as a sophomore. Following his senior season, Santy was selected in the 30th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins and spent three years in the minor leagues.
A San Diego, Calif., native, Santy holds a bachelor's in history from Washington and a master's in education from East Central University.
