SALT LAKE CITY – Three members of the Utah baseball team received postseason Big 12 Conference honors on Tuesday, as the league announced its final slate of awards for the 2025 campaign.
Shortstop
Core Jackson and right-handed pitcher
Colter McAnelly were voted All-Big 12 First Team by the league's coaches, while third baseman
Austen Roellig earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention as well as a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Jackson returned for his second season at Utah and started all but two games this year—finishing with 100 career starts with the Utes. As a senior, he led the team in just about every offensive category including batting average (.364), slugging (.641), OBP (.445), runs scored (61), hits (75), RBI (44), doubles (19), home runs (12), total bases (132) and steals (20). His defensive prowess shined with 117 assists, along with having a hand in 25 double plays.
A member of the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, Jackson finished the regular season ranked among the best in the Big 12 in batting average (fifth), doubles (fourth), hits (fifth), runs scored (third), stolen bases (sixth) and slugging percentage (11
th). In conference play he scored 36 runs--the second-most of any player in the league—while his 10 steals tied for fourth. He was ranked as the No. 10 shortstop in the country in D1Baseball.com's late-season position breakdowns.
Helped by a five-run game at Arizona on May 10, which included a straight steal of home, Jackson's 61 runs scored and 20 stolen bases this season both place him in the top-10 in recorded program history.
Taking on the Friday night spot as a sophomore,
McAnelly made 14 starts and finished with a 4-4 record, 3.79 ERA, 92 strikeouts and was part of two combined shutouts. He tossed a Big 12-leading 92.2 innings and was top-five in the league with 92 strikeouts; the strikeout total also placed McAnelly fourth in recorded program history.
The three-time Big 12 Pitcher of the Week went seven innings or longer in nine of his starts, including one complete game. Ranked the No. 47 starting pitcher nationally by D1Baseball.com, McAnelly averaged 6.2 innings per start, another Big 12-best. In conference play, he was tied for the lead with 67.1 innings pitched and placed in the top-five with 66 strikeouts. Perhaps McAnelly's top outing of the season came in the series opener against preseason league favorite Oklahoma State, going eight shutout innings against the Cowboys and tying the Utah single-game record with 12 strikeouts.
Named both All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team, the versatile
Roellig made 45 starts at third base but also was a contributor during the season at second base, shortstop and DH. All told, he was one of two players to start all 50 games and finished in the top-five on the team for most offensive categories. It included batting average (2
nd; .341), slugging (5
th; .441), OBP (5
th; .391), runs scored (2
nd; 37), hits (2
nd; 72), RBI (3
rd; 35) and doubles (T-3
rd; 16).
Roellig was one of the most consistent players for Utah during Big 12 play, hitting a team-best .357. He also ran up a 12-game hitting streak midway through the season and finished the year on another such run of 10 straight games.
Defensively, he was charged just two errors all season and had a .981 fielding percentage. Although runs saved is not an official statistic in college baseball, Roellig projected among the best in the Big 12 at his position in terms of range and ability to knock down a hard-hit ball.
