This Weekend's Fan Experience Rundown
- Once again throughout the 2025 season, parking on Utah Baseball gamedays is free at Smith's Ballpark. Park in the lot on 13th South, directly North of home plate. Fans can also ride TRAX for free with a valid game ticket or University of Utah UCard—just hop on the Red, Blue or Green Lines to Ballpark Station.
- University of Utah students are always admitted to baseball games free of charge—just show your UCard at the gate.
- The Utes will be holding a food drive throughout this weekend to support the Feed U Food Pantry on the University of Utah campus. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable item to donate so that we can minimize hunger in the campus community. The pantry is particularly in need of peanut butter, canned soup, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned fish, canned beans, pasta and rice.
- Every Friday home game this season will be Snack Shack Day. Visit the marketing table behind home plate to claim a voucher for a free or discounted item at the concession stand. Also this Friday, the first 100 fans through the gates can swing by the marketing table to pick up a free Utah Baseball-themed bag.
- On Saturday, kids can run the bases postgame. Listen for announcements on where to meet up and young fans will be welcomed down the field a few minutes after the game ends.
- Sunday will be the second Sunday Select Series game. Visit the marketing table each Sunday home game all season to pick up various Utah baseball player cards (this week's cards are Drake Digiorno, Cameron Gurney and Merit Jones).
The First Pitch: Things to Know
Utah is back on the home diamond for a second straight weekend, hosting a familiar foe in Arizona State for a three-game Big 12 Conference series.
- Utah is looking to get back on track after a midweek setback at Utah Tech, but did take two from Oklahoma State in its first Big 12 home series last weekend. Colter McAnelly tied the Utah single-game record with 12 strikeouts in a combined shutout last Friday night, before the team combined for 12 hits and a nice job from the pitching staff to come away with the rubber match on Sunday.
- The Utes won last year's series at ASU, taking two of three last April inside Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Former Utah southpaw Bryson Van Sickle tossed a Maddux in the series opener, before TJ Clarkson and Matt Flaharty had two homers apiece in the Sunday finale. Clarkson hit .583 in the series with four home runs and eight RBI.
- Now members of the Big 12 Conference, the league is Utah's fifth affiliation since resuming varsity baseball in 1948. Previously, the Utes have played in the Skyline Conference (1948-62), WAC (1963-99), Mountain West (2000-2011) and Pac-12 Conference (2012-24). Since joining the WAC, Utah has won five conference championships, most recently in 2016 as a member of the Pac-12.
- As a team Utah hit .333 last week, the best batting average for the week in the Big 12. In the Oklahoma State series, four Utes hit .400 or above led by Derek Smith's 5-for-11 weekend. Smith hit two home runs to lead the club to an 11-0 win, raising his batting average at the time by 50 points. Core Jackson was .429 on the weekend with two homers of his own.
- Headlining the offense has been Jackson, the two-hole hitter who has hit safely in 17 of Utah's last 18 games. The native of Wyoming, Ontario, boasts a team-best .419 batting average (fourth in the Big 12) while also owning Utah's top slugging percentage (.677), OBP (.486), most runs scored (26), total bases (63) and steals (8). His 1.86 hits per game average is a Big 12 best and ranks fourth in the country.
- The Utah bats have combined for 59 doubles on the season, leading the Big 12 and sitting 13th across college baseball. Kaden Carpenter (10) has the most on the team, while Tyler Quinn (8) is close behind.
- Defensively, Gary Henderson's club has climbed into the top-22 nationally with a .979 fielding percentage. It ranks third in the Big 12, helped by an error-free weekend against Oklahoma State.
- Following this weekend's series, the Utes will close out an eight-game stretch in the Beehive State with a rematch against Utah Tech. It'll be a Tuesday night tilt at Smith's Ballpark with first pitch at 4 p.m. MT.
This Week in Utah Baseball History
March 26, 2016 – After starting the season 4-11 overall, Utah clinches its second Pac-12 Conference series win of the year with a 16-7 rubber game triumph at Arizona State. The bats belted out 23 hits and combined for 10 runs in the final two innings. Four different players had three hits apiece and Dylan Drachler got the win on the mound. Utah went on to prove the doubters wrong, winning the Pac-12 Championship after being picked last in the preseason poll.
