Henderson Announces Staff Updates for 2027 Utah Baseball Season

Antillon elevated to assistant coach, Clingman joins staff as assistant coach
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Baseball head coach Gary Henderson announced today a pair of staff updates heading into the 2027 season. Hunter Antillon has been elevated to assistant coach, while the program has also welcomed Jesse Clingman as an assistant coach.

"I am excited to have Hunter on our staff in an expanded role as well as welcome Jesse to our program," said Henderson. "Hunter has been involved nearly every aspect of our team as a player or staff member, making him an outstanding resource for our club. Jesse brings great baseball knowledge and has a variety of experience in analytics, which will greatly benefit the Utes."

Antillon will work day-to-day with the catchers and Clingman assists in all aspects of the program, with a focus on player development support, performance analysis and video and technology integration. Fellow assistants Todd Guilliams and Mike Brown also return to Utah for the 2027 season.

Hunter Antillon – Assistant Coach
In his expanded role, Antillon will mentor the catchers as well as serve as first base coach. He remains involved in organizational aspects of the program including in team travel, meals, film, recruiting and practice planning.

Antillon first came to the Utes as a player on the 2024 squad and remained with the club in 2025 as a graduate manager.

"I'm grateful to Coach Henderson for the chance to step into an assistant coach role," Antillon said. "Utah Baseball means a lot to me, and I have enjoyed the three seasons I've already spent as part of this program. I look forward to working with our players on and off the field."

A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Antillon appeared in 43 games during the 2024 campaign. He made 41 starts at catcher as Utah set a Power Conference era program record with 33 wins. He was behind the dish to catch two talented southpaws in Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Bryson Van Sickle as well as closer and eventual Detroit Tigers draft selection Micah Ashman.

Antillon slashed .321 / .438 / .453 during the 2024 season, contributing six doubles, four home runs, 25 RBI and 20 walks. He ranked third on the team in batting average, second in OBP and fifth in slugging. Following the season, he was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.

Prior to Utah, he made stops at CSU San Bernardino and New Mexico State. He was a member of the 2022 NM State team that won the WAC and reached the NCAA Corvallis Regional.

Jesse Clingman – Assistant Coach
Clingman oversees the program's analytical initiatives with a focus on pitching, while assisting in all other day-to-day aspects of the program. His responsibilities include player development support, performance analysis and video and technology integration.

"First and foremost, I'm incredibly thankful to Coach Henderson and everyone here at Utah for the opportunity to be with the Utes," said Clingman. "Having grown up in Utah, I have always followed this program and enjoyed watching it grow over the years. I feel grateful to now be able to help Utah Baseball continue to elevate each day."

Clingman brings a diverse background in baseball analytics, biomechanics and sports performance. Prior to Utah, he served as head baseball coach at Deseret Peak High School in Tooele, Utah. He oversaw all aspects of the Golden Eagles program as the team played its inaugural season in Spring 2026, leading game and practice planning, player development and weight room programming.

Before launching the Deseret Peak baseball program, Clingman was the head baseball strength coach at the College of Southern Nevada from 2022-24. He developed a comprehensive strength and conditioning program aimed at increasing performance, injury reduction and sufficient recovery. Across both the Fall and Spring seasons, Clingman used data collection both to track player progress and ensure his strength programming was improving to best serve CSN players. While with CSN, Clingman additionally served as co-director of wellness and sports performance with Tim Soder Physical Therapy.

He also gained experience with his undergraduate alma mater, Utah Tech, where he was the biomechanics and sports science lab coordinator beginning in 2019. Clingman maintained the lab's daily operations, taught lab and lecture courses and conducted athletic assessments for several teams on campus, including baseball. He also had a stint directly with the Trailblazers baseball program as its director of analytics and film. Clingman created player development tools and custom software solutions while helping integrate biomechanics and pitch design into the program's daily operations.

A native of Stansbury, Utah, Clingman pitched at Allan Hancock College and Utah State Eastern. He then transferred to Utah Tech, where he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science in 2020. He later completed a master's degree in kinesiology from UNLV (2023).

In 2020, he received the American Kinesiology Association Regional Student of the Year Award. Clingman is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
