OREM, Utah – No. 19 Utah volleyball stayed perfect after beating the host Utah Valley in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) in the Wolverine Classic in Orem, Utah.

Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres and
Kenzie Koerber were named to the all-tournament team and
Dani Drews was named MVP of the tournament.

The win moves Utah to 7-0 on the season and is the best start for the Utes since 2014 when they started 10-0.

"We're getting better every match, and we've got an experienced, mature group that is really focusing on continuing to get better," head coach
Beth Launiere said. "It's a very workmanlike attitude in the gym. There is a lot more for us to get better at, but that's what I'm most proud of with this group right now."

Drews finished with a season-high 21 kills and hit .405. Koerber also capped a great tournament finishing with 13 kills hitting .440.

Ka'aha'aina-Torres set a career high in a three-set match with 43 assists and added six digs and 3.0 blocks.

Utah Valley threw their best punch in the first set sticking with the Utes every step of the way. The second Utah got some breathing room up 18-15, the Wolverines surged ahead with a 5-0 run, but there was no panic on Utah's side of the net. They ran off a 7-1 run to take the first set 25-21.

In the second set, Drews and Koerber both took control combining for 15 kills with only one error between both of them. Drews had nine kills hitting .533 and Koerber had six kills hitting .750.

Utah had a one-shot lead at 18-17, but ran off five straight points for some breathing room. They closed out the set with a Drews kill and
Berkeley Oblad ace to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Utes controlled the third set, but really got some breathing room after a 4-0 run put them up 21-14 and eventually closed it out 25-18.

Oblad had eight kills, three service aces, three digs and 3.0 blocks. The three blocks brings her career block total to 398.0.

Utah will now look forward to another tough weekend on the road at Pepperdine, where they will take on No. 10 Pittsburgh and Cal Poly as well as the hosts. The first match will be against Pepperdine on Friday, September 13 at 1 p.m.
