SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball handled their business against No. 23 BYU, fighting back for a reverse sweep, 3-2, against their rival in front of a record 6,021 crowd at the Jon M. Huntsman Center Friday night.
The Utes fell into an early hole losing the first two sets of the match (25-17, 25-22) but showed determination in the last three sets (25-21, 25-21, 15-12) to earn their 12
th win of the season.

SET ONE
BYU raced off to a 6-0 lead to start set one against Utah at the Jon M. Huntsman Center until Moea'i hammered a kill to get the Utes on the board.
Utah made up some ground going 6-2 against the Cougars to make it a 16-10 game. The Utes continued to be relentless, chipping the first set down to a four-point game, 17-13, but BYU ultimately prevailed 25-17.
SET TWO
The second set started much more competitively between Utah and BYU with the rivals trading two lead changes and eight ties before the Utes took the lead at 9-8.
BYU stuck with it, tying the set at 20 late making things interesting down the stretch and taking their second set win, 25-22.
SET THREE
Like set two, set three started close with the Utes and Cougs trading three ties and one lead change before Utah took off 4-3.
About halfway through the set, the Utes were up comfortably 12-8, but BYU made a late push to make it a two-point game down the stretch, 20-18.
Unlike the round, Utah held strong taking a 25-21 set win and forcing a fourth set.
SET FOUR
Once again, set four started tight with the Utes and Cougars going back-and-forth with five lead changes and 10 ties.
Utah eventually prevailed and forced set five against BYU, 25-21.
SET FIVE
Utah jumped out to a 6-3 lead over BYU to start the final set of the match, keeping momentum on their side hitting the halfway point 8-5.
The Utes kept the momentum to win the set, 15-12, and accomplished the reverse sweep of their rivals, 3-2.
STANDOUT STATS
- Utes Total Stats: 66 kills off 153 total attempts, seven aces, 58 assists, 14 blocks, 54 digs.
- Moea'i hit 1000 career kills and matched her career-best in kills (18) while providing the Utes with five blocks, four digs, and one ace against their rivals.
- Kamryn Gibadlo led Utah in kills (23) and recorded three aces, nine digs, and one block.
- Neea-Maria Joki matched her career-high in blocks (7) while providing 13 kills, two aces, and four digs.
- Levani Key-Powell provided the Utes with eight kills and seven digs.
- Katelynn Field was a wall adding nine blocks and Leah Wilton-LaBoy was solid with 40 assists and 12 digs.
UP NEXT
The Utes wrap up their home slate for the year next week hosting No. 13 Kansas on Wed., Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. MT. Utah will then turn their attention to Arizona for Senior Night on Fri., Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. MT.
Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
