No. 17 Utah Loses at LMU, 1-0

LOS ANGELES - No. 17 Utah Soccer allowed an early goal and despite dominating the second half, could not find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss at Loyola Marymount during the first road game of the season Friday night.
"I was very pleased with the way we responded in the second half," head coach Rich Manning said. "We played with purpose and energy and did a lot of good things. We just could not put the ball in the net. We created a bunch of chances and can build off that going into Sunday's game."
Utah had a chance for an opener straight for the kick-off as Eden Jacobsen's shot was saved by Charlee Pruitt, the first of six for the LMU goalkeeper.
The only shot on goal for the home side occurred in the 30th minute and it proved vital to the outcome. Emily Carman got her head on a free kick and flicked in her first goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Utah had two chances to close an evenly played half but Max Flom and Natalee Wells both fired wide.
The Utes dominated the second half but were never able to even the scoresheet. In the 52nd minute Natalie Vukic had a try blocked and Pruitt denied Paola van der Veen's header four minutes later.
The pressure remained applied to the LMU defense as Hailey Skolmoski fired wide in the 65th minute and then had a try saved moments later.
Three minutes after those two forays, Vukic was stopped once again. Utah had another try saved in the 72nd minute and Haylee Cacciacarne's header sailed wide in the 74th.
In the final 10 minutes, the Utah attack ramped up another level in search of an equalizer. Vukic and Holly Daugirda had tries blocked and off an ensuing corner kick, Cacciacarne lofted one over the bar.
One minute later, Van der Veen had a try saved and Skolmoski would have another attempt blocked as the frustration continued at the offense end until the final whistle
Utah is back in action on Sunday at Cal State Fullerton. Kick-off vs. the Titans is at 5 p.m. PT
