LOS ANGELES - Chandler Anderson had three hits to lead the Utes as the Utah baseball team fell to UCLA, 8-3, to close out the three-game series.
UCLA broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run fifth inning en-route to the win.
Anderson went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored a run.
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., had two hits.
On the mound,
Josh Lapiana fell to 3-6 with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings.
Tanner Thomas, Josh Tedeschi, and
Dylan Drachler also saw innings on the mound for the Utes.
Utah (24-24, 12-15 Pac-12) left two on base in the top of the first inning, but it was UCLA that broke through for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. A leadoff walk and single led to a run on a ground out.
The Utes got on the board in the third. Anderson started a rally with two outs with a single and
Dallas Carroll walked to put two runners on base.
Hunter Simmons singled in Utah's first run of the game, tying the contest at 1-1.
UCLA broke the tie in the fifth inning with five runs on five hits, including two home runs and an RBI double. The Bruins added a solo home run in the sixth for a 7-1 lead.
Utah got a pair of runs back in the seventh.
Kyle Hoffman walked and
Ellis Kelly and Keirsey both singled to load the bases with no outs. Anderson and Carroll both hit RBI ground outs to give the Utes a pair of runs.
UCLA continued to pull ahead with a run in the eighth after a pair of two-out hits.
Utah returns home on Friday, May 26, to begin a three-game series against Arizona State to close out the regular season.
