Utah Soccer To Host 'Pink On The Pitch' Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah soccer team will host the Pink on the Pitch event Sunday, Sept. 21, as part of its 1 p.m. match against Cal State Fullerton at Ute Field. Pink on the Pitch is a promotion of breast cancer awareness. Anyone attending the game is encouraged to wear pink and will receive free admission if they do so.
Five hundred pink handkerchiefs and special Utah Athletics Cancer Awareness posters will be given away at the game. There will also be a halftime presentation from cancer survivor MaryAnn Gerber. Gerber was diagnosed with melanoma at the age of 24. After beating the disease, Gerber is a cancer awareness advocate who now works to educate the public about sun safety and the danger of tanning beds. Additionally, the Huntsman Cancer Institute will be on-site to distribute informational pamphlets.
As part of the promotion, both the Utah and Cal State Fullerton squads will wear special uniforms, incorporating pink into their kits.
