SAN DIEGO - Kristie Keller had two of the University of Utah softball team's three hits this afternoon and that's all the Utes had as they dropped their third straight in falling to San Diego State this evening, 3-0.
The Utes fall to 19-15-1 overall and to 0-3 in Mountain West Conference action. The Aztecs are now 24-14 and 1-2 this season.
Ute hurler Meghan Dyer went the distance and gave up seven hits and three earned runs. She fanned seven Aztec batters.
Keller's 2-for-3 effort at the plate led Utah. The visiting Utes finished with three hits on the night as Staci Hemingway accounted for the team's the third hit, going 1-for-3.
The Aztecs only had one hit through three innings but saw the pendulum swing their way in the fourth. Brittany Knudsen hit an RBI single that hugged the left field line and gave SDSU the 1-0 lead
A sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the fifth gave SDSU the comfortable three-run lead.
Pitcher Christina Ross stymied the Ute offense and got the win for the home team, while Kasey Mytinger's 2-for-3 showing led SDSU at the plate. The Aztecs finished with seven hits in all.
These same two teams will do battle once again tomorrow afternoon. First pitch for the final game of the weekend is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
