FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Utah women's soccer team saw its chances for a Mountain West Conference title dim a bit Friday night. The Utes lost for the first time in 14 matches, dropping a 3-0 road decision to TCU.
TCU (8-9-0, 3-3-0 MWC) scored three first-half goals en route to the victory. Utah (10-3-4, 2-1-2 MWC) suffered its first loss in conference play and its first loss since the third game of the season on Sept. 6. The shutout was the first time Utah has gone without scoring in back-to-back contests since the final two contests of the 2005 season. Prior to Friday night's match, Utah played to a scoreless draw with New Mexico.
TCU's Lizzy Karoly scored the first two goals of the contest for the Horned Frogs. Karoly found the back of the net in the 21st and 32nd minutes for her fourth and fifth tallies of the season. Nikki Wilbur scored her first goal of the season just before halftime to account for the final score.
Utah out-shot TCU 24-12 and put 10 shots on goal, compared to eight for the Horned Frogs. But the Utes just couldn't find the goal.
Utah is back in action again Sunday at 1 p.m. in the regular-season home finale. Four Ute seniors - Chelsea Card, Melissa Crespo, Kiley Jones and Paola Marsenaro - will be making their final regular-season appearance at Ute Field against San Diego State.
