TUCSON, Ariz. - The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams and National Players of The Year were announced Friday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
University of Utah shortstop Ryan Khoury was one of just four Mountain West Conference players to earn All-America honors from the newspaper. He was the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and is currently the No. 5-ranked hitter in NCAA Division I. Khoury also ranks No. 6 in the nation in runs per game (1.3), No. 14 in slugging percentage (.728) and No. 31 in times hit by pitch (0.34 per game).
Khoury finished the 2006 season with a .438 batting average. He hit a team-high 13 home runs and led the squad with 56 RBIs.
Joining Khoury on the Collegiate Baseball All-America teams were three other MWC players. New Mexico pitcher Danny Ray Herrera earned second-team honors. TCU first baseman Chad Huffman and BYU outfielder Ben Saylor were both on the third team, along with Khoury.
The University of Utah baseball team finished its season with a 28-28 overall record. It marked just the second time in the last 10 years that the Utes had a .500-or-better overall record.
