Utes Continue Homestand, Host Southern Utah Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah baseball player Ryan Khoury will be chasing history Tuesday night. The Utes will be chasing their first winning season since 2002 when they host Southern Utah University at Franklin Covey Field.
Khoury hit a two-run home run against Air Force Sunday afternoon, recording the 280th hit of his career. That mark ties the record set by Nate Weese from 1999-2002. Khoury's next hit will give him the record.
In addition to Khoury's record chase, he continues to be one of the best hitters in the nation. Khoury's current batting average of .444 ranks No. 4 in the nation and is easily tops in the Mountain West Conference.
Meanwhile, a victory on Tuesday night would assure Utah of a winning record. The Utes haven't finished above .500 since 2002. A winning record for the Utah baseball squad this season would be just the second in the last 10 years.
Brandon Ast, Utah's regular mid-week starter, will take the hill against Southern Utah. Ast, a junior left-hander, has a 3-1 record with a 3.86 earned-run average in 11 appearances. Southern Utah will send Jake Noyes to the mound. The freshman right-hander has a 1-1 record and a 3.25 ERA in one start and 16 appearances.
Following the Southern Utah game, the Utes will wrap up their homestand Thursday through Saturday, hosting Brigham Young University at Franklin Covey.
