SALT LAKE CITY - Utah women's soccer, ranked No. 30 by Soccer Buzz, posted an impressive 2-0 win over the Pac-10's Oregon Ducks on Sunday afternoon at Ute Field in the final game of the Utah Fall Classic.
Sophomore Amanda Feigt and senior Erin Pruitt both scored their first goals of the season in the second half. Senior Glennis Donnelly, playing for the second consecutive game at keeper in place of Ashley Mason, made two saves.
Utah (2-1-1) had a couple of scoring opportunities late in the first half and continued pressuring Oregon (1-2-1) early in the second half. Kim Lloyd possessed the ball nicely as Utah set up for its first goal of the game at the 66:29 mark. Whitney Dorsey sent the ball the Feigt on the right side for a one-on-one opportunity against Oregon keeper Domenique Lainez. Feigt slotted it through the lower left side of the net for the score.
The Utes continued working and got their second goal in the 82nd minute. Lauren Field sent a great cross in front of the goal to Pruitt, who headed it into the upper right corner. Pruitt had four shots in the game, including three on-goal. Julie Herdic also fired four shots for the Utes.
Utah outshot Oregon 22-5, including a 13-3 advantage in the second half, and forced Lainez to make eight saves. The Utes also had five corner kicks to none for the Ducks.
The Utes went 1-0-1 in the inaugural Utah Fall Classic, also tying San Francisco 1-1 on Friday. San Franciso tied the Utes for the best record in the tournament, getting a 4-1 win over Weber State on Saturday.
Next weekend, the Utes head to Winston-Salem, N.C., to play in the Wake Forrest/adidas Classic. Utah faces Denver on Friday evening and Colorado on Sunday morning.
