Henderson Named Honorable Mention All-America

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah volleyball standout Lyndsey Henderson continues to make waves on the national scene as the Ute middle blocker has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America team.
The AVCA placed Henderson on the Honorable Mention All-America team as announced at the volleyball championships last weekend. She joins the likes of former Utah standout Kim Turner who was a third team All-American in 2003.
Henderson excelled during the 2004 campaign, becoming one of the top all-around players in the Mountain West Conference. She averaged 1.67 blocks per game which ranked second in the conference and eighth nationally. Offensively, she racked up 3.59 kills per game and hit .322 for the season, checking in at third and fifth in the MWC, respectively. The 6-5 middle blocker established herself as one of the team's go-to threats, bagging double-digit kills in 25 of the 30 matches this season. Among that string is a career-best 22 kills in leading Utah to an upset victory over then-No. 6 UCLA.
Henderson's list of accolades this season include AVCA all-region honors, all-Mountain West Conference and MWC Player of the Week (Oct. 18) in leading Utah to a pair of road wins against Colorado State and Wyoming. She led the Ute offense in hitting .580 that weekend. That included 20 kills on .680 hitting against the Cowgirls. Also, the win over then-No. 7 Colorado State was the first for Utah in Fort Collins, Colo., in 19 tries.
The Utes turned in one of their most successful years in 2004. Utah went 24-7 for the year and 13-1 in conference tilts. It won its first MWC regular season title and made its fourth straight appearance in the MWC tournament title match. The Utes also made their seventh straight NCAA appearance when it dropped a 3-0 decision to Long Beach State in the first round.
