SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah closed out a two-game road swing through northern California with a 1-0 loss to Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon. The Utes (9-2), ranked 19th in the NSCAA/adidas poll, ended a seven-game winning streak with the loss.
Utah, which had eight shots on goal and outshot Sacramento State 15-6 overall, was held scoreless for just the second time this season. The Utes also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Hornets got on the board early and held off the Utes with a solid defensive effort the rest of the way. Lisamarie La Vallee scored 7:55 in, putting a shot past Ute keeper Kaycie Zimmerman, who took her first loss in goal this season. Zimmerman also made one save before being relieved by Ashley Mason in the 70th minute.
Carisse Winegar had four shots, two of which were on goal, for the Utes. Julie Herdic attempted three shots. Sac State keeper Stephanie Shaw made eight saves.
