Utah Women's Volleyball Team Remains Unbeaten

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 8 University of Utah (4-0) women's volleyball team continued its unbeaten streak on Friday night with a three-game sweep of Cal Poly, 30-23, 30-18, 30-27, at the Stanford Invitational. The Utes were without sophomore middle blocker Lyndsey Phillips, who is out with an ankle injury. Stepping in for Phillips was junior Britt Whiting, who finished with eight kills and two blocks.
Senior Sylva Strzinkova led Utah with 14 kills (.400 hitting percentage), six digs and three blocks. Sophomore Sabina Schulz also came up big, hitting for .526 and netting her second double-double in as many matches, with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore setter Kelsie Kartchner had 34 assists on the match, while junior Kim Turner tallied 11 kills and nine digs, one dig shy of her third double-double of the season.
As a team, the Utes hit for .369, compared to .123 by Cal Poly. Utah also finished with eight blocks.
"This was the best our offense has clicked so far this season," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "Britt did a great job of replacing Lyndsey."
Cal Poly was paced by Jessica Diepersloot with nine kills and Kristen O'Halloran with 10 digs.
UP NEXT: Tomorrow, the Utes face San Jose State at noon, followed by a 7:00 p.m. battle against No. 1 Stanford.
