SALT LAKE CITY--The Utes were unable to take the series from UNLV, as they lost 7-4 in game three on Monday afternoon at Franklin Covey Field. Utah (25-19, 9-9) won game two earlier in the day to even the series at a game apiece, but couldn't top UNLV (21-22, 7-11) in the second game of the doubleheader. The Utes continue conference play, but this time its on the road as they face San Diego State April 26-28.

Utah struck first, in a game that featured three lead changes, off an RBI single by Nate Weese in the first and an RBI double by Mike Westfall in the second, 2-0. The Rebels snatched the lead by bouncing out three runs in the third, including two off a home run by Brent Johnson, 3-2. Utah grabbed the lead back by knocking in two runs in the fourth, 4-3. Donald Hawes drove in the two runs with a double down the left field line.

But the Rebels continued their scoring drive by adding a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one more in the seventh to seal a 7-4 victory. Giovanni Pupo picks up the win after holding the Utes scoreless in 3.2 innings of middle relief.

Adam Castleton finished the day 3-of-3 with a run scored. One of Castleton's hits was a double that tied him with Casey Child for the Ute career doubles record of 56. Mike Basham scored two runs for Utah, while Hawes drove in two.

Cheyenne Rushton picks up the loss for the Utes to drop him to 6-3 on the season. The senior gave up nine hits in 5.0 innings, while allowing six runs (five earned).
