SALT LAKE CITY--Albertson College scored 11 runs on 11 hits to defeat Utah, 11-8 on Tuesday in game one of a doubleheader at Franklin Covey Field. The loss drops the Utes to 18-14 overall and moves the Coyotes to 16-8.
Both teams came out swinging, as each opened the game with a run in the first inning. Donnie Saba knocked a homer over the right field wall for Utah's run. The Coyote's went on to score three more runs in the third and then posted a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth to make it an 8-1 game. The Ute bats came alive in the final four innings led by Jake Jordison, who had a two-run double in the eighth. But it was too big of a hole for Utah to overcome as it dropped just its second game at home.
Utah outhit Albertson 13-11, but stranded six runners in the game. Sophomore Sean Overholt falls to 0-5 on the season after allowing six runs in 3.2 innings for the loss. Jordison finished the day 2-of-4 at the plate and Jed Chrisman added two hits, one RBI and two runs scored for Utah. Matt Ciaramella also had two hits, including a triple in the third and an RBI single in the seventh.
Cory Acklus led Albertson with five RBI off two hits with two runs scored. Chris Rennaker picks up his first win of the season after holding Utah to three runs in 6.0 innings of work.
