Utah Wins Game Two To Split Doubleheader With Albertson College

SALT LAKE CITY--The Utes split a doubleheader with Albertson College on Tuesday after winning game two, 10-4. Utah dropped the earlier game, 11-8. Up next, the Utes (19-14, 4-5 MWC) face Brigham Young in a conference three-game series starting Thursday in Provo, Utah.
Making his first start of the season, freshman Clay Westmoreland threw 5.0 innings, and allowed four runs while striking out seven to lead Utah past the Coyotes at Franklin Covey Field. The effort earned Westmoreland (1-0) his first win in a Ute uniform.
The Utes helped the freshman pitcher with a six-run outpour in the second inning. Mike Westfall kicked off the inning with a double to center field. Mike Basham then drove Westfall home on a single to right. The Utes scored five more runs that inning, including two on a double to right by Brit Pannier (6-0).
Albertson added three runs of its own in the top of the third to cut the lead in half. In the Utah fourth, Matt Ciaramella scored on a wild pitch and Donnie Saba crossed the plate on a single by Nate Weese (8-3). Saba went on to knock out his second homer of the day in the sixth to make the final score of 10-4. The junior now has seven dingers on the season.
Nate Weese, Brit Pannier and Brett Baldwin finished with two RBI each in the win. Saba and Basham had two hits apiece and Saba scored three runs.
