SEATTLE-Utah won its series against Washington 2-1 by winning game three on Sunday afternoon (8-3). The win moves the Utes to 10-8 on the season. This is the fourth straight series Utah has won. The Utes play their home series opener against Southern Utah March 8-10 at Franklin Covey Field. All three games are scheduled to start at noon.
Utah jumped ahead of the Huskies, 1-0 in the second inning after Brett Baldwin singled in Jake Jordison. The Utes added another run in the third and two more runs in the fourth to make it a, 4-0 game. Washington fought back in the fourth with a RBI double and a two-run homer.
Utah sealed the win with a run in the sixth and three more runs in the seventh. In the seventh, Baldwin knocked in his second run of the game with a double to left center. Adam Castleton batted in two more runs with a single to left field.
Senior Mitch Maio (3-0), who has primarily been used as a closer, started his first game on the mound for Utah. Maio threw a complete game, while striking out 11 batters and allowing three runs.
At the plate, Castleton and Baldwin led the Utes with two RBI a piece. Donnie Saba added three hits and Nate Weese scored two runs in the win.
