SEATTLE-The Utes dropped their series opener to the Huskies on Friday night, 11-2. The loss drops the Utes to 8-8 on the season and moves Washington to 6-3.
Washington put up a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead over Utah. The Huskies added to that lead with two two-run singles in the sixth to make it 10-0. The Utes posted their first run of the game in the seventh when Matt Ciaramella homered to center field (10-1). Washington answered with another run in the seventh to increase the lead to, 11-1. Utah posted its second run of the game in the top of the eighth after Nate Weese drove home Adam Castleton on a single to center field (11-2).
Washington pitcher Shawn Kohn (3-0) struck out a career-high 11 batters on his way to his third win of the season. Jason Wylie (3-2) is credited with the loss for Utah. Wylie allowed six runs (three earned) in 4.0 innings of work.
