ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Utah baseball team trailed 4-1 after one inning to 12th-ranked Nebraska, but rallied to win 7-6. The Utes (6-6) had to hold their breathe as Nebraska (2-3) had the tying run on second with one out in the ninth, but couldn't get him home.
After falling behind 5-1 after two innings, Utah scored once in the third, twice in the fourth, then went ahead with three in the sixth, capped by Brit Pannier's two-run homer. Pannier's homer was his second of the season. Eight Utes had hits, including Mike Westfall's three. Westfall finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI. Sam Swenson added his fifth homer of the season in the fourth.
Mitch Maio pitched 3.2 innings of one run (zero earned) relief, and Matt McAfee recorded the final out to pick up his first save of the season. Ryan Bailey got the win, going five innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits. It was his second win of the season.
Utah will finish up play on Sunday against Missouri at Lobo Field beginning at 12:00 p.m. (MST).
