INDIANAPOLIS - The Utah women's soccer team boosts its record to 3-2 following a double-overtime victory over Butler. The Utes battled through 111:04 minutes of play to outshoot the Bulldogs 15-9. All of Utah's goals were unassisted.
The Utes and the Bulldogs fought to a 0-0 standstill through most of the game, Ute forward Alli Cerruti broke the scoring glitch in the 71st minute when she gathered a loose ball and slammed a 17-yard shot into the right corner of Butler's net.
The Bulldogs answered back two minutes later with a goal of their own. Midfielder Kara Bryan received a pass from forward Martha Gudiel to score on a two-yard shot.
Utah midfielder Amy Kofoed shot the Utes back into the lead with another unassisted shot when she sped through the Bulldog defense on a breakaway.
Butler once again retaliated scoring just a minute behind the Utes on a direct kick. Bulldog midfielder Susannah Hoppe tied the score with a header.
Kofoed came back to seal the victory for the Utes in double overtime when the sophomore shot a 25-yard free kick past the Bulldog goalkeeper.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Hills is 3-2. She had two saves and allowed three goals.
Next up, the Utes travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to play Michigan Sept. 12 at 12:00 p.m.
